摘要: Cells require a continuous supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to carry out the synthesis essential cellular components, repair damage these for various energy requiring transport and secretory functions, do mechanical work. The primary source this ATP is mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. It common knowledge that content mitochondria varies widely among cell types each type is, first approximation, matched requirements from phosphorylation type. This exemplified by fact cardiac myocytes, which have high rate utilization much higher enzymes than, example, cultured kidney cells, lower utilization. general observation suggests cells mechanism(s) changing their level in response needs production resulting chronic changes function. In chapter we examine our current understanding regulation conditions result individual evaluated. Last, identify possible serve detect need alterations mitochondria, thereby allowing adaptation occur environmental needs.
