摘要: BACKGROUND Primary treatment for suspected microbial keratitis is generally successful. Although risks such as contact lens use are well recognised causative factors keratitis, little known about the risk that influence outcome. The present study evaluates assessed at diagnosis prognostic indicators of primary failure. METHODS Patients were prospectively enrolled in ofloxacin trial and data concerning symptoms, treatments, past concurrent eye disease collected along with measurement corneal ulcer size slit lamp. All patients scraped microbiological investigation, treated either (0.3%) or standard therapy fortified cefuroxime gentamicin drops. Treatment success was complete healing zero dimensions epithelial defect within 2 weeks start treatment. important selected by comparison among those who failed treatment, had delayed healing, culture positive other using univariate stratified analysis. These then used a Poisson model multiple regression analysis to estimate relative main variables. RESULTS Of 118 study, 14 identified failures, 17 slow 15 indolent ulcers. There 49 patients. multivariate large ulcers 60 years older 5.5 times failure (p CONCLUSIONS Elderly more likely be positive, fail therapy, require surgical intervention. A provided information regardless organism isolated. However, this less value small younger
