摘要: We describe progress in the development of a multiple quan- tum well modulating retroreflector, including description recent dem- onstrations an infrared data link between small rotary-wing un- manned airborne vehicle and ground-based laser interrogator using device designed fabricated at Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). Modulating retroreflector systems couple optical such as corner cube, electro-optic shutter to allow two-way communications laser, telescope, pointer-tracker on only one platform. The NRL uses semiconductor-based quantum capable modula- tion rates greater than 10 Mbps, depending characteristics. technology enables use near-infrared frequencies, which is known provide covert immune frequency allocation problems. This specific has added advantage being com- pact, lightweight, covert, requires very low paper. Up order magnitude onboard power can be saved array these devices instead radio equivalent. In described onstration, Mbps unmanned aerial flight range 100 200 feet shown. Near real-time compressed video was also demonstrated level described. © 2001 Society
