摘要: Experiments with milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), conducted under controlled conditions, were designed to investigate the inhibiting effect of expanded leaves on growth their axillary buds. Precise measurements bud (± μm), using a specially constructed strain gauge transducer, showed that excision apical and partly (shoot decapitation) or only both induced an almost immediate, but transient, response whereas decapitated shoots permitted buds escape from inhibition. providing long-term substantiated these results rapid leaf was associated 35% increase in xylem water potential stem (ψxy).
