摘要: Background. According to seroprevalence studies the majority of children in Hong Kong are infected by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) before 10 years age, but characteristics EBV-associated infectious mononucleosis (IM) Chinese largely unreported. This study aims at defining clinical presentation and complications childhood IM relation age children. Methods. A retrospective was performed on 77 consecutive patients who fulfilled serologic criteria for diagnosis primary EBV infection (viral capsid antigen IgM + viral IgG nuclear - ). The clinical, hematologic biochemical findings were evaluated among four groups <2 years, 2 4 5 9 15 years. Results conclusions. occurred all with a peak incidence corresponding rapid rise early Chinese. presented fever, tonsillopharyngitis, lymphadenopathy hepatosplenomegaly, similar adult patients, recovered without major complications. Marked lymphocytosis presence atypical lymphocytes consistent finding groups. occurrence hepatitis showed clear association advancing (P = 0.003). age-related increase IM-associated may reflect difference host immune response against between infants older
