Epstein–Barr virus infection as a cause of cervical lymphadenopathy in children

摘要: Abstract Objective Cervical lymphadenopathy is a common pediatric problem; reactive hyperplasia, specific infective agents, and malignancy are mainly the differential diagnosis. The aim of our study was to detect prevalence Epstein–Barr virus infection among children who complained cervical also evaluate clinical manifestations disease in patients. Methods One hundred sixty presented with were subjected Epestien–Barr Virus (EBV) serology testing. Cases that showed positivity heterophile antibody test, and/or EBV-specific antibodies; IgM against viral capsid antigen (VCA-IgM) IgG (VCA-IgG) evaluated clinically for disease. Results Twenty-four cases (15%) EBV serology, all them had posterior lymph nodes enlargement, 70.8% fever, 66.6% tonsillo-pharyngitis, 58.3% splenomegaly, 25% hepatomegaly, 41.6% generalized lymphadenopathy, while skin rash detected 12.5%, both palatal petechiae palpebral edema 8.3%. Conclusions not rare cause children. Posterior age group may represent password suspicion infection, other include hepato-splenomegaly, rash, petechiae.
