摘要: Neonates treated for acute respiratory failure experience episodes of hypoxia. The hippocampus, a structure essential memory, is particularly vulnerable to such insults. Hence, some neonates undergoing treatment might sustain bilateral hippocampal pathology early in life and memory problems later childhood. We investigated this possibility cohort 40 children who had been neonatally but were free overt neurological impairment. mean volumes (HVs) significantly below normal control values, scores the standard population means, quotients those predicted by their full scale IQs. Brain white matter volume also fell controls, brain gray on nonmnemonic neuropsychological tests within range. Stepwise linear regression models revealed that cohort's HVs predictive degree impairment, gestational age at was HVs: younger age, greater atrophy. conclude many significant atrophy as result associated hypoxia and, consequently, show deficient life.
