Working in the for-profit versus not-for-profit sector: : what difference does it make? An inquiry on preferences of voluntary and involuntary movers

摘要: We investigate the drivers of for-profit/not-for-profit wage differential by comparing judgments job characteristics workers who voluntarily or involuntarily moved from former to latter sector. define voluntary movers as those applied for a in not-for-profit organization and, when successful, resigned for-profit position, while involuntary have either been laid off their company without already having offer observe that large share do not end up with higher wages but, surprisingly, satisfaction after change. The vast majority find significantly time flexibility, improved relationships stakeholders and closer conformity educational skills new jobs. Our findings support forprofit/not-for-profit compensating hypothesis shed light on mechanisms are beyond donation behavior intrinsically motivated workers.
