摘要: Since the discovery of first aminoglycoside (AG), streptomycin, in 1943, these broad-spectrum antibiotics have been extensively used for treatment Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial infections. The inherent toxicity (ototoxicity nephrotoxicity) associated with their long-term use as well emergence resistant strains limited usage. Structural modifications AGs by AG-modifying enzymes, reduced target affinity caused ribosomal modification, decrease cellular concentration efflux pumps resulted resistance towards AGs. However, last decade has seen a renewed interest among scientific community exemplified recent influx articles patents on therapeutic use. In this review, we non-conventional approach to put forth renaissance AG development/application summarizing all filed from 2011–2015 highlighting some related publications most work done overcome improving while reducing ototoxicity nephrotoxicity. We also present developing amphiphilic fungicides that repurposing existing potential newer applications.
