摘要: OBJECTIVE : The natural history of the supratentorial low-grade glioma (LGG) adult is variable, and its malignant transformation hardly predictable. Because positron emission tomography with [ 18 F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) has prognostic value in high-grade gliomas, this study was designed to search for a possible relationship between glucose metabolism risk evolution LGGs. METHODS Positron FDG performed 28 patients LGGs (22 at time diagnosis 6 after diagnosis). A metabolic grading system based on visual inspection tomographic images used. RESULTS In 19 patients, no area uptake higher than white matter detected (metabolic Grade 1). All those were alive end follow-up period. Only one presented histological modification 7 months diagnosis. Nine areas increased 2 or 3). Those found tumor eight an radionecrosis one. Of nine hot spots, six died, two had recurrence but period, patient signs recurrence. CONCLUSIONS presence histologically proven LGG predicts, most cases, deleterious evolution. This feature, detectable noninvasive procedure, may provide clue cellular changes, announcing that retains features LGG. Protocols aggressive therapeutic strategies situation should be considered evaluation. (Neurosurgery
