摘要: Crystalline bacterial cell surface layers (S-layers) are the outermost envelope component of many bacteria and archaea. S-layers monomolecular arrays composed a single protein or glycoprotein species represent simplest biological membrane developed during evolution. The wealth information available on structure, chemistry, genetics assembly revealed broad spectrum applications in nanobiotechnology biomimetics. By genetic engineering techniques, specific functional domains can be incorporated S-layer proteins while maintaining self-assembly capability. These techniques have led to new types affinity structures, microcarriers, enzyme membranes, diagnostic devices, biosensors, vaccines, as well targeting, delivery encapsulation systems.
