Saffron as a valuable spice: a comprehensive review.

摘要: Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) is an autumn flowering high value, low volume spice crop that grows throughout Mediterranean Europe and Western Asia between 10° west 80° east longitudes 30 to 50° north latitudes. At present, saffron production limited Iran countries of older civilizations such as India, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey. Its cultivation under threat extinction thus warrants attention researchers policy makers. Like Kashmir, its revival be taken on mission mode approach, particularly in the areas where has been abandoned by farmers. Sher-e-Kashmir University Agricultural Sciences Technology Kasmir, other International Organizations, have instituted research programme for systematic improvement from consumption system. This review deliberates latest work being done promotion farming economically viable venture livelihood security.   Key words: Plant, development (R & D), saffron.
