摘要: Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV8) is pathogenic in humans, especially cases of immunosuppression. We evaluated the risk HHV8 transmission from liver donors, and its clinical impact southern Italy, where seroprevalence general population reported to be as high 18.3%. tested 179 transplant recipients their donors for antibodies at time transplantation, implemented all a 12-month posttransplant surveillance program infection. Of enrolled, 10.6% were seropositive before whereas organ donor's was 4.4%. Eight seronegative patients received donor, four them developed primary Two these had lethal nonmalignant illness with systemic involvement multiorgan failure. Among 19 recipients, two viral reactivation after transplantation. In addition, an recipient donor infection multicentric Castleman's disease. conclusion, transmitted can cause severe associated mortality.
