摘要: Fever, cutaneous rash, and hepatitis—for which an infectious cause was suspected—developed in Italian patient with non-Hodgkin lymphoma after autologous peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplantation. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) degenerate primers for the highly conserved DNA polymerase gene of herpesviruses detected herpesvirus sequences 100% identical to human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) serial cell-free serum samples, collected immediately before or concomitant occurrence clinical symptoms; no other common infections were documented. The presence HHV-8 genome (clade C) confirmed by PCR HHV-8–specific orf 26 orf-K1. viremia undetectable either transplantation when clinically asymptomatic. Semiquantitative analysis showed variations viral load correlating status. Anti–HHV-8 antibodies immunofluorescence assay lytic antigens. Active infection may be associated nonmalignant illness PBSC/bone marrow
