A prospective longitudinal study of clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, diagnostic spectrum and outcomes of specific therapy in adult patients with chronic cough in a general respiratory clinic.

摘要: Summary Chronic cough with established diagnostic protocols has been well described in secondary and tertiary centres. Little information is available about adult patients to a general respiratory clinic where no such exist. The objective of this study determine clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, spectrum outcomes specific therapy chronic clinic. In prospective, longitudinal, descriptive for defined as more than 8 weeks, we studied, according questionnaire, chest radiography, spirometry reversibility, methacholine challenge other measures. Treatment was prescribed on the basis diagnosis informed by investigation results. We evaluated 147 (102 females) mean age 48 years complaining an average 24 weeks. On successful response treatment, causes were determined 92% frequencies asthma 39%, COPD 11%, upper airway syndrome (CUACS) 9%, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD) 9% 8%. Cough due one condition 82%. Our treatment success rate 92%. The most frequent (asthma, COPD, CUACS GERD) could be sequential approach. The are different from those clinic, but outcome our patients.
