Treatment of external gastrointestinal fistulas by a combination of total parenteral nutrition and somatostatin.

摘要: Thirty-seven patients with external gastrointestinal fistulas were treated a combination of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and somatostatin (ST). There was significant fall in fistula output within the first day treatment (p > 0.001). On combined therapy, reduction 70%, 68% cases, fell to less than 50% initial level. Spontaneous closure observed 82% time taken close ranged between 1 14 days starting therapy [5.4 ± 0.7 (mean SEM)]. The response TPN-ST occurred irrespective age sex patients, duration daily before ST use, their location tract. Infection factor adverse prognosis.
