摘要: The emergence of direct-to-consumer (DTC) personal genomics companies in 2007 was accompanied by considerable media attention and criticism from clinical geneticists other health professionals, regulators, policy advisors, ethicists. As well as offering genetic testing services, some firms are also engaged building their own databases conducting research with the data obtained customers. In this paper, we examine how one these companies, 23andMe, is creating a certain kind 'research subject' opposition to that constituted conventional forms disease research. Drawing on debates about neoliberalism, contemporary discourses subjectivity, consider two kinds subjectivities produced through discursive material practices 23andMe UK Biobank, namely, 'enterprising' 'altruistic' selves. We argue model promotes idea curiosity one's genome hand, participation other, not only compatible but complementary aspects being an entrepreneurial subject medicine framed technologies web 2.0.
