Craft, tangibility and affect at work in the microbrewery

摘要: Abstract In offering particular intrinsic rewards, craftwork has been situated in recent debates as a possible antidote to some of the alienating features work modern capitalist societies. The revival traditional beer UK, led by Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), provided context which proliferation small-scale breweries emerged. Using insights drawn from qualitative interviews, this article explores occupational identity brewers working such breweries. Their accounts foreground notions skill and passion where both are intertwined produce brewer identity. Brewer is described being embodied, felt performed through on with ingredients equipment at brewery. It suggested that tangibility process involved product produced mean significant value derived embodied craft brewing. Thus, engaged material processes brewery and, finished beer, able see tangible reflection one’s labour final highlights ways draw meaningful rewards affective facets skilled work.
