The presents the in vitro pharmacology of PDE4 inhibitors—focusing human cells. inhibition potently prevents release pro-inflammatory mediators from a range cell types. have been shown to inhibit adhesion molecule expression, chemotaxis, proliferation, migration differentiation, remodeling factors. discusses method reduce impact side effects by limiting delivery inhibitor only required site action. In chapter, some these approaches described inhaled drugs for respiratory diseases, but skin is another area suitable local delivery. addition anti-inflammatory properties would be expected give long-term benefit such readouts as exacerbation rate, changes airway structure, rate decline lung function.
