摘要: The population sizes, trends, exploitation, and life history parameters for the ten fur seal species subspecies are summarized. largest is that of Arctocephalus pusillus with approximately two million seals, smallest A. townsendi 7,000 individuals. Most populations legally protected, although controlled harvesting may occur. None currently known to be decreasing. Data presented related survival pups, juveniles, adults, territorial males, reproduction, including age attainment status, aggregation first parturition, pregnancy rates, sex ratios young animals, information on birth seasons different species. Since pinnipeds often concern in fisheries management, their daily consumption rates importance, consequently data body masses summarized paucity as a function mass noted. A simplified age-structured model developed, results this compared from more detailed models based published tables Callorhinus ursinus. This comparison shows use justified explore changes growth rate. However, does show exaggerated structure effects models. used compare dynamics those which sufficient available. Areas limited,
