摘要: OBJECTIVE: In previous investigations the chlorhexidine (CHX) chewing gums tasted unpleasant. The main problem with different CHX formulations is high incompatibility of anionic compounds. purpose this study to introduce a new formulation for gum that gives both anti-plaque effectiveness and an acceptable taste. METHODS: DESIGN: Randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial, employing two 5-day trial periods without mechanical oral hygiene. PARTICIPANTS: 18 from 22 volunteer dental students (8 males, 10 females, mean age +/- 2.3 years). INTERVENTION: Active gum, containing mg CHX, placebo were used 20 min twice daily. A 7-day washout period between was used. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Turesky modification Quigley Hein index assess plaque formation. Success blinding assessed at second day each test period. At end period, subjects asked evaluate taste products RESULTS: has significantly higher effect than (95% confidence interval 2.7865 3.5302, p < 0.0001). Subjects could not determine drug assignment by or otherwise (p = 0.6250). difference subjective evaluations significant 0.5879). CONCLUSION: can be successfully incorporated in gum-based delivery system use as adjunct even short-term replacement control. observation needs extended if product anticipated longer-term use.
