摘要: Aim Aberrant crypt foci (ACFs) are clusters of colonic crypts that can be identified after staining and have a different behaviour than the surrounding crypts. They been hypothesized to potential precursors neoplastic lesions. Since they detectable in vivo with endoscopic stains, proposed as early biomarkers for carcinogenesis. Our aim was examine literature regarding role ACFs pathogenesis colorectal cancer (CRC). Method An intensive PubMed search performed following terms: aberrant foci, cancer, biomarker, carcinogenesis. Results variable prevalence little is known about their natural history. classified hyperplastic or dysplastic. There evidence supports preneoplastic lesions features by chromoendoscopy related CRC risk. Moreover, shown harbour genetic epigenetic alterations common adenomas CRC. However, contradictory results obtained difficulties detection characterization described large-scale studies. Conclusion Despite inconsistencies ACF characterization, several changes both verified throughout studies. This increasingly strong it grows along progress knowledge carcinogenesis molecular pathways. Clinical application an intermediate endpoint under development deeper mechanisms needed before applied discarded.
