摘要: Publisher Summary The Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) is a widely used experimental animal model. This chapter focuses primarily on the most current research uses of hamster. More classical are covered only as they pertain to these uses. Hamsters possess unique anatomical and physiological features, which make them desirable models. Unlike other commonly laboratory rodents, hamsters cheek pouch, can be easily everted examined at both gross microscopic level. hamster's relative size also allows for better visualization certain biological systems including respiratory reproductive when compared mouse. Further, develop variety inherited diseases, display similarities human conditions. possessing some traits commercially available. They susceptible carcinogens tumors that animals less develop. Also induction metabolic disorders through use dietary manipulations. antagonistic nature study effect treatment male aggressive defensive behaviors. several characteristics desired models carcinogenesis studies.
