摘要: [1] The database of IMP 8 bow shock crossings was used to investigate properties the shock's cross section between 10 and 15 RE tailward Earth in response selected upstream magnetospheric parameters. Best-fitted ellipses were derived for each parameter subset analyzed. We have found that average solar wind conditions, moves north-south directions by 3.8 when dipole tilt changes from sunward antisunward orientations. Comparisons with results provided global three-dimensional MHD simulations magnetosphere shown angle effect is likely be also important estimation dayside wave's position. orientation IMF respect flow, expressed θ Bv , influence size stability shape/position. observed Mach number dependence agreed previous studies no other significant IMF-induced asymmetries found.
