摘要: Objective: To review the physiology of lactate production and metabolism, causes lactic acidosis, current applications monitoring in humans animals. Data sources: Human veterinary studies. Summary: Lactate is result anaerobic metabolism. Tissue hypoxia due to hypoperfusion most common cause acidosis. Studies critically ill have shown that serial can be used assess severity illness response therapy. Several studies also as a useful tool illness. Conclusions: measurement patients practical provide information illness. Further are needed establish value measurements for prognostic therapeutic purposes. Information regarding cats limited, further warranted.
