摘要: In many developed countries, the incidence of cervical cancer has decreased. These reductions have been specific to squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and not included adenocarcinoma (AC). Incidence AC increased steadily over last 20 years. The intent this article is examine trends in Ontario a 20-year period relation screening practices. All cases between 1981 2002 were extracted from Cancer Registry (a population-based, provincial-wide database). Age-standardized rates calculated overall, by broad age groups morphological type (SCC AC). Time assessed using JoinPoint methodology. Ontario, opportunistic accompanied significantly decreased SCC since at least 1981. Conversely, rose 3.1% per year (95% CI: 1.6%, 4.6%) 1995, subsequently declined 4.0% −7.4%, −0.5%). From mid- late-1990s, instructions distributed clinicians, reinforcing importance dual specimen collection (i.e., both spatula endocervical brush). At same time, laboratories routinely provided physicians with kits that brush. subsequent decline may be due, part, improved collection. As well, partly due awareness precursors among cytopathologists and/or improvements laboratory training quality assurance. © 2006 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
