摘要: Background Few studies have explored the impact of environmental change on walking using controlled comparisons. Even fewer examined whose behaviour changes and how. In a natural experimental study new cycling infrastructure, we in walking, identified groups who changed similar ways assessed whether exposure to infrastructure was associated with trajectories walking. Methods 1257 adults completed annual surveys assessing sociodemographic health characteristics use (2010–2012). Residential proximity routes objectively. We used latent growth curve models assess total for recreation transport, simple descriptive analysis class (LCA) identify factors group membership multinomial regression. Results LCA five trajectories, characterised by consistently low levels; high decreases; short-lived increases; sustained increases. Those lower levels education incomes were more likely show both increases transport. However, those less take up Proximity intervention uptake Conclusions Environmental improvement encouraged active as well encouraging already walk more. Further research should disentangle role socioeconomic determining environments
