摘要: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) accounts for ~15% of all TB patients, and pleural effusion is the second most common site EPTB. The diagnosis challenging due to pauci-bacillary nature disease. Histopathology thoracoscopically obtained biopsy provides highest diagnostic yield. Xpert MTB/RIF assay (Xpert) a PCR test that can identify both Mycobacterium (MTB) rifampicin resistance. Currently, there lack clarity regarding value on tissue. We report our experience using thoracoscopic samples. METHODS retrospectively reviewed records patients who underwent thoracoscopy in institution over 1-year period. Relevant clinical details; indications; results tests tissue fluid, including histopathology, mycobacterial cultures Xpert, were extracted. RESULTS Of 156 thoracoscopy, 73 (47%) had TB, 66 (42%) malignancy 17 (11%) other conditions. was (100%). yields microbiological against histopathology sample fluid were: 45%, culture 39%, 17% 14%. Pleural provided higher than (P < 0.05). yield substantially improved compared with closed as we previously reported. CONCLUSION Thoracoscopic increased sensitivity testing.
