摘要: Erythropoietin (EPO) produced by the kidney and liver (in fetuses) stimulates erythropoiesis. In central nervous system, neurons express EPO receptor (EPOR) astrocytes produce EPO. has been shown to protect primary cultured from N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated glutamate toxicity. Here we report in vivo evidence that protects against ischemia-induced cell death. Infusion of into lateral ventricles gerbils prevented learning disability rescued hippocampal CA1 lethal ischemic damage. The neuroprotective action exogenous was also confirmed counting synapses region. soluble EPOR (an extracellular domain capable binding with ligand) animals given a mild treatment did not neuronal damage, caused degeneration impaired ability, whereas infusion heat-denatured detrimental, demonstrating endogenous brain is crucial for survival. presence neuron cultures repress NMDA increase intracellular Ca2+, but NO-induced Taken together may exert its effect reducing NO-mediated formation free radicals or antagonizing their
