摘要: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes vision loss in elderly. With an increasingly aged population worldwide, need for prevention AMD rising. Multiple studies investigating with use animal models and cell culture have identified oxidative stress-related retinal damage as important contributing factor. In general, diet excellent source antioxidants, vitamins, minerals necessary healthy living; moreover, general public often receptive to recommendations made by physicians health care workers regarding supplements a means empowering themselves avoid common worrisome ailments such AMD, which has epidemiologists clinicians enthusiastic about dietary intervention studies. A wide variety nutrients, minerals, ω-3 (n-3) fatty acids, various carotenoids, been associated reducing risk AMD. Initial results from Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) indicated that supplementation antioxidants (β-carotene vitamins C E) zinc was reduced progression. The AREDS2 follow-up study, designed improve upon earlier formulation, tested addition lutein, zeaxanthin, acids. this review, we examine science behind nutritional factors included these interventional reasons considering their inclusion lower rate
