摘要: Ice cores are archives of climate change and possibly large solar proton events (SPEs). Wolff et al. (2012) used a single event, nitrate peak in the GISP2-H core, which McCracken (2001a) time associated with poorly quantified 1859 Carrington to discredit SPE-produced, impulsive deposition polar ice. This is not ideal test case. We critique analysis demonstrate that data they cannot detect because resolution limitations. suggest re-examination top Greenland ice sheet at key intervals over last two millennia attention fine replicate sampling multiple species. will allow further insight into depositional processes on sub-seasonal scale, including atmospheric sources, transport mechanisms sheet, post-depositional interactions, potential SPE association.
