摘要: Objective.Several studies suggest that parameters derivedfrom bispectral analysis of the EEG can be used to characterize specificcortical activation states represented by non linear interaction betweenbrain electrical oscillations. For example, it was shown so-calledbispectral indices assess depth sedation. Themethods applied so far are based on interval-related procedures ofbispectral analysis. Consequently, use resulting parametersfor on-line monitoring or investigations signal properties duringtransition periods, e.g., when entering burst-suppression isrestricted. The objective this paper is provide methodologicalbasis for a time-continuous (on-line) investigation quadratic phasecoupling induced amplitude modulation. Methods. To accomplishthis aim an algorithm presented which enables thetemporal development in degree modulation (DAM), e.g.,during transition periods patients withsevere neurological diseases. Results. It found theseperiods associated with increasing DAM compared baselineconditions.
