摘要: Chronic pulmonary thromboembolism plays an important role in cardiac failure which is a major cause of death thalassemic patients over 20 years age. This report study autopsy lung tissue from 58 with beta-thalassemia/hemoglobin E disease (beta-thal/HbE), including whole lungs five, 13 hemoglobin H (HbH), and eight beta-thalassemia (beta-thal) one. Pulmonary thromboembolic lesions were found 24 (41%) beta-thal/HbE, 21 39 (54%) splenectomized 3 19 (16%) nonsplenectomized patients, the incidence increasing Lung maps showed greatest number lingula, right middle lobe, anterior segments both upper lobes. also one HbH 8 beta-thal splenectomized. Eight 27 these had ventricular 14 biventricular hypertrophy, reflecting deleterious effect such lesions. Possible causative factors are discussed.
