摘要: Water quality indexes permit an evaluation of water conditions in comparative terms. This paper presents a methodology for derivation generalized index based on factor analysis (a multivariate statistical technique), and examines the geographical applicability such index. Ten pollutant parameters from data accumulated Carson Valley Nevada during 1974, 1975, 1976 irrigation seasons provided basis two indexes: i) WQITN = f(temp., BOD, TP, EC, DODP); ii) WQIPN PO₄-P, DODP). Regression as functions variables river basins indicated to be better (F-test 99%, R₂ 0.9098). The formulation was then compared with values suggested by experts (WQIE). coefficients were determined WQIE regression equations selected locations throughout United States. proposed appeared most geographically acceptable R² 0.9754). model estimated shown have good potential Use development generalized, well specific-use indexes, may enable geographic identification problem areas contributing pollution appropriate standards. Standardization terms range acceptability, e.g., light, moderate, or severe pollution, is further investigation.
