摘要: Abstract This study investigated PNIPAAM/keratin hybrids that were prepared by free radical polymerization of NIPAMM in the presence functionalized keratin with vinyl group. Functionalized presented functionality greater than 2, therefore, it acted as a crosslinker and pH-responsive segment polymer network. Preparation occurred an aqueous medium at room temperature or 60 °C, using H2O2/ascorbic acid ammonium persulfate redox initiators, respectively. Polymerization 60 °C led to phase segregation due lower critical solution (LCST) behavior PNIPAAM solution. However, this phenomenon had little influence on global composition hybrids, incorporation into was slightly higher for those temperature. Keratin no hydrogels. extent hydrogel contraction LCST proportional amount functionalization degree. The charge balance polymeric network determined swelling solutions different pH. mechanical properties hydrogels, evaluated compression tests, showed resistance hydrogels concentration foam-like structure interconnected pores, configuration allowed transport adsorption Cu2+ from solutions. These characteristics make their potential candidates cation adsorbent materials.
