摘要: Suburban sprawl has been widely criticized for its contribution to auto dependence. Numerous studies have found that residents in suburban neighborhoods drive more and walk less than their counterparts traditional environments. However, most confirm only an association between the built environment travel behavior, yet establish predominant underlying causal link: whether neighborhood design independently influences behavior or preferences options affect residential choice. That is, self-selection may be at work. A few recently addressed influence of self-selection. our understanding causality issue is still immature. To address this issue, study took into account individuals’ by employing a quasi-longitudinal controlling attitudes. In particular, using data collected from 547 movers currently living four Northern California, we developed structural equations model investigate relationships among changes environment, ownership, behavior. The results provide some encouragement land-use policies designed put closer destinations them with alternative transportation will actually lead driving walking.
