摘要: We investigated strategies involved in odour intensity coding by the primary olfactory centre of insects, antennal lobe (AL), structural and functional analogue bulb. Using calcium imaging honeybee, we simultaneously measured projection neuron output responses a compound signal dominated receptor input identified glomeruli to odours spanning seven log units concentration. A comparison two processing levels indicates that intercellular computation within AL modulates contrast-enhances signals. As result network optimizes code: representation is improved at lower concentrations, relative activity allows encoding quality over up four log-unit odour-intensity reliably represented overall excitation across AL.
