摘要: In order to identify socioeconomic characteristics associated with slower progression of HIV infection, we conducted a nested case-control study within cohort 729 homosexual men. The compared non-progressors (defined as subjects who, at follow-up visit during the period October 1989-December 1990, had been positive for least 5 years, CD4 count > 0.5 x 10(9)/l, Karnofsky score 100%, were Centers Disease Control (CDC) Stage III or less, and never received zidovudine prophylaxis against Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia) rapid progressors those who developed AIDS other than Kaposi's sarcoma 6 years seroconversion, enrollment if already seropositive). Rapidly progressing matched non-progressing on basis date seroprevalent seroconversion seroincident. Socioeconomic data taken from questionnaire obtained into 1982-84. There 41 in each group. A significantly higher proportion annual incomes above $10,000, (85 vs 62%; p = 0.019). Similarly, greater more likely have finished secondary school (100 84%; 0.020) progressors. reported employment management professional positions (35 15%). group also index based self-reported occupation (45.1 38.3; 0.035). association income persisted even after adjustment baseline symptoms.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
