摘要: A number of C57BL/6 (B6) substrains are commonly used by scientists for basic biomedical research. One several B6 strain-specific background diseases is focal alopecia that may resolve or progress to severe, ulcerative dermatitis. Clinical and progressive histologic changes skin disease observed in C57BL/6J preliminary studies other closely related presented. Lesions develop due a primary follicular dystrophy with rupture severely affected follicles leading formation secondary foreign body granulomas (trichogranulomas) mice. Histologically, these resemble the human called central centrifugal cicatrical (CCCA). Four tested have polymorphism alcohol dehydrogenase 4 (Adh4) reduces its activity potentially affects removal excess retinol. Using immunohistochemistry, differential expression epithelial retinol (DHRS9) was detected, which partially explain anecdotal reports frequency differences between substrains. The combination 2 defects has potential make high dietary vitamin levels toxic some while not affecting most inbred strains.
