Pathways into Caregiving for Rural Custodial Grandparents

摘要: ABSTRACT Although one-quarter (25%) of custodial grandparents live in rural areas, less is known about these families than their urban counterparts. This qualitative study was conducted to determine pathways into care with families; that is, the reasons and process grandparenting roles. Based upon interviews fourteen grandparents, three major were identified. The most common co-residential where parent generation exited a multi-generational household. In incremental pathway, had attempted multiple strategies culmination taking physical custody grandchildren. A final immediate care, typically result family crisis situation. Needs challenges for differ depending unique pathway this caregiving role.
