Oral health-related quality of life of 11- and 12-year-old public school children in Rio de Janeiro.

Community Dent Epidemiol 2011; 39: 336–344. © 2010 John Wiley & Sons A/S Abstract –  Objectives:  The objective this study was to assess the association between oral (OHRQoL), measured through Child-OIDP, demographic characteristics, self-reported problems, clinical health measures, among city Janeiro, Brazil. Methods:  A cross-sectional conducted, having as its target population students both sexes, formally enrolled 6- 7-year classes at schools. probabilistic sample with complex design used. OHRQoL assessed by Brazilian version Child-OIDP. exams were presence dental biofilm, gingival bleeding, DMFT, fluorosis, enamel defects, trauma, malocclusion recorded. Results:  total 571 participated a mean age 12.0 years 95% confidence interval (95% CI) from 11.9 12.1. 88.7% presented impact problems least one eight daily performances. activities that had most impacts eating (81.3%), cleaning mouth (40.5%), smiling (32.2%). Child-OIDP index 7.1 CI 6.2 8.1. highest scores relation (mean = 25.0; 22.4 27.6), (mean = 12.0; 9.1 14.9), (mean = 10.0; 7.5 12.5). In logistic regression model, associated caries experience perception sensitive teeth, inadequate position teeth. multinomial regression, we found odds higher levels positively experience. Self-reported caries, mobile milk tooth position, bleeding gums, bad breath worst OHRQoL. Conclusions:  It can be concluded there is an index. This indicates condition on children. Moreover, explained more than normative measures.
