摘要: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) appear to play a key role in the development and progression of human malignancies. MMPs mediate destruction extracellular matrix, which is an important early step tumor invasion metastasis. Growing evidence suggests that also have angiogenic activity participate stages tumorigenesis primary growth. Investigations experimental animal models confirmed importance pathogenesis colorectal cancer, studies humans show direct association between increased MMP expression invasiveness, metastases, shortened survival. In this review, physiologic normal tissues examined data supporting cancer are reviewed. The results clinical trials with inhibitors promising areas for future investigation discussed.
