摘要: Abstract Background Malaria is a serious parasitic infection affecting millions of people worldwide each year. Cerebral malaria the most severe complication Plasmodium infections, predominantly children. Extracellular vesicles are essential mediators intercellular communication and include apoptotic bodies, microvesicles exosomes. Microvesicle numbers increase during disease pathogenesis inhibition their release can prevent brain pathology mortality. Scope review We explore current knowledge on exosomes in cerebral pathogenesis. Major conclusions Microvesicles implicated pathogenesis, modulation host immunity to Plasmodium, cell-cell communication. Blocking production protective models malaria, both vivo vitro. General significance While anti-malarial treatments exist combat increasing drug resistance presents major challenge. In order improve diagnosis treatment outcomes, further research required better appreciate extracellular vesicle involvement malaria.
