Characterization and on-sky demonstration of an integrated photonic spectrograph for astronomy

摘要: We present results from the first on-sky demonstration of a prototype astronomical integrated photonic spectrograph (IPS) using Anglo-Australian Telescope near-infrared imaging spectrometer (IRIS2) at Siding Spring Observatory to observe atmospheric molecular OH emission lines. have succeeded in detecting upwards 27 lines, and demonstrated practicality IPS device for astronomy. Furthermore, we laboratory characterization device, which is modified version commercial arrayed-waveguide grating multiplexer. measure spectral resolution full-width-half-maximum be 0.75 ± 0.05nm (giving R = λ/δλ 2100 150 1500nm). find free range 57.4 0.6nm peak total efficiency ~65%. Finally, briefly discuss future steps required realize an instrument based on this technology concept.
