摘要: Objectives. —To examine the trends of intravenous vancomycin usage during a 10-year period, to classify indications for which physicians prescribed antibiotic, and identify independent predictors empirical use vancomycin. Design. —A descriptive epidemiological study, cross-sectional case-control study were performed. Setting. 900-bed university-teaching hospital. Main Outcome Measures. —The annual crude (grams) incidence density (grams/1000 patient-days) measured 10 years (July 1981 July 1991). In 109 randomly selected patient medical records, we evaluated proportion classified as prophylaxis, therapy, or specifically directed therapy. Univariate multivariate analyses performed determinants administration vs penicillase-resistant penicillin 64 case patients control patients. Results. rate increased 20-fold from 5.72 g/1000 patient-days in 121.25 1991. The was significantly higher ( P =.001). Conclusions. —Vancomycin has linearly last decade primarily related presence indwelling vascular devices hematology-oncology Use is equally divided among specific therapy documented infection.
