Improving Island Competitiveness Through Alternative Ferry Connections

摘要: Destination competitiveness has become a significant objective of region's business development and tourism growth. For insular areas, an efficient maritime connection is acknowledged to be critical importance for their competitiveness. This paper explores the and/or complementarity ferry two ports island Chios (port port Mesta). The research aims at quantifying demand connections between Piraeus-Chios Lavrio-Mesta, accounting passenger's point view. willingness inhabitants tourists use Lavrio-Mesta route modelled. Advanced Stated Preferences scenarios collecting data are employed. Analysis Revealed shows that current users not satisfied with facilities, services infrastructure Mesta's port. Model estimations, based on data, demonstrate driving time from city Mesta timetable main factors affecting choose Mesta-Lavrio connection.
