摘要: Cancer of unknown primary (CUP) is a clinical syndrome representing many types cancers and diagnoses are typically made after review presentation, pathology (including immunohistochemical staining) imaging studies. Treatment with systemic chemotherapy has been shown to result in fairly reproducible objective response rates. Herein, case patient who was initially diagnosed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma origin reported. After mRNA gene expression profiling (commercially available CancerTYPE ID), specific diagnosis papillary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) then confirmed additional staining. The treated targeted therapy an radiographic seen. A literature suggests this be the first RCC, identified by molecular profiling, benefitting from agent that otherwise would not have considered setting CUP. This underscores importance considering use newer testing technologies interest offering patients more specific, order improve efficacy spare toxicities less empiric chemotherapeutic regimens.
