摘要: Aim Human impacts have shaped species ranges throughout the Holocene. The putative native range of beech, Fagus sylvatica, in Britain was obscured by its late post-glacial arrival and subsequent extensive management. We sought to differentiate interacting effects colonization anthropic on current genetic structure diversity beech contrasting phylogeographical signals from putatively natural translocated populations. Location Samples were obtained 42 sites Great Britain. Methods Chloroplast nuclear microsatellite marker data interpreted alongside palynological, historical anecdotal evidence. Genetic analysed using individual-based Bayesian assignment methods history an approximate computation framework. Results Phylogeographical patterns suggested contemporary forests originated south-eastern populations. High haplotypic found near entry point into Britain. Cryptic isolation-by-distance persisted range, together with higher levels gene markers. Weak regional high flow country. Main conclusions Genetic driven persist despite widespread intervention. Forests northerly regions established diminishing credibility any present boundary between non-native
