摘要: Individually identified Ourebia ourebi (Bovidae) were observed in Serengeti National Park for 1-8 mo, annually, from 1987 to 1993 study flexibilitv the size and composition of territorial groups. A total 236 O. resighted over periods 1 yr or more. The modal number adults groups was three all years (range: 1-7; x = 3.1, SE 0.2, n 5 yr; 136 overall); maximum group with adolescent young calves eight. In 32 % groups, two adult males resident at least yr, as 4 Groups up females common 0-5). Overall, 25 27 26 still present on territory where first after yr. Only 14 35 male-female dyads remained intact same period. appear be primarily polygynous, a moderate rate yr-to-yr residency particular low long-term pairing between females. more than one male are not unique but their significance has been previously considered. Comparisons across populations Africa show that polygyny is positively correlated ratio males, population density, mean size, prevalence multi-male there less evidence these variables influence Experiments required determine how demography, predation pressure, quality distribution food other small antelope
