In South Africa, the oribi, Ourebia ourebi is an endangered small antelope that requires conservation management and intervention to prevent their extinction. Use of translocation for subpopulations facing local extinction in wild has been proposed. this study, fifteen oribi from threatened populations were captured released (November 2004) on a private game reserve KwaZulu-Natal, Africa. Radio telemetry was used monitor dispersal survival translocated oribi. Only one death occurred during period. All other survived, most remained close proximity release site more than year postrelease. Reproduction also occurred. This suggests that, could be viable option conserving assuming factors, such as availability suitable grassland habitat poaching curtailed, are met.
